Back on the wagon…sort of

July has been a really interesting month for me. Both good and bad points. But all in all, interesting. Okay, in a nutshell, got sick (acute bronchitis) the first week of the month. The next week i hyper extended my elbow and couldn’t use it for 2 weeks. So right off the bat, no gym for about 3 weeks. Which threw me because i had a regiment of going at least 4 times a week. Anyways, in that span of time recovering, i moved to a studio. But this move was different. Because of my injury, i had to ask people to help. Because i’ve moved so much in the past, all i own fits in a mid-size car.  So, including furniture, all my worldly belongings can be moved in one trip. And, until this move, i’ve been able to move everything myself.

Also, i have to leave my car in a public lot because theres no parking where i’m at, and the closest lot to where i am is about a mile and a half away. So since the middle of july i’ve been averaging a 3 mile walk 5 days a week. But, because i wasn’t going to the gym, it worked out.

Also all the walking i’ve been doing has inspired me to do more outdoorsy stuff. And that i didn’t really need the gym to work out. I’ve actually been looking at alternative ways of commuting.  I reacquainted myself with a skateboard, albeit painfully. I fixed my beach cruiser and have been using that pretty regularly. Thankfully theres not a lot of hills where i am at so the one speed is perfect, and since i’m near the downtown area it’s become my bar hopper at night. No DUI for me thank you. XD

Anyways, now my arm is almost fully functional i can start hitting the gym regularly again. And since the gym is right next to the parking lot i keep my car at. I figure the 15-20 min. walk is a good warm up which will make gym visits shorter and more productive.

We’ll see see how it goes.  But right now, i’m stoked!

track day.

Decided i want to try to start jogging again. I figured the high school track is only a 15 minute walk from my house, whereas my gym is a 15 minute drive. I could save some gas on the trip to the gym and do some cardio the old fashion way. Well, i learned two things today. One, i am more or less at the same fitness level i was when i was in high school. I did  1.75 mi. of mixed jogging/walking in about 30 min.  And two, I’ve been pretty spoiled with all the elliptical cardio stuff at the gym.

I can be on a machine for 30-45 min. and still be able to hit weights or whatever else afterwards. After the track i was completely drained! And my legs were burning all the way home. I can only imagine what these next few days will be like.

But its all for the better i guess.

About me…

I’m new here so here’s a little background on myself. I was, and am sill, a big guy. I was about 300 when i graduated high school and I gained even more out of school. About 4 years ago i tipped the scale at 385. It wasn’t until i moved out of the parents house and to another state, i realized how much being heavy was affecting me.  I found myself wanting to go out and do physical things like hiking and paddling. Wanting to go out to clubs to try to update my single status. Wanting to just be comfortable in my own skin.

But, being as big as i was, i couldn’t and didn’t accomplish any of the above. And like many people got depressed. I was away from home and my friends. I had to work have food on my plate. I had to pay rent. I was miserable for the first few months.

However, it was in that fit of depression, and constantly being broke cuz i didn’t live at home, i began to lose weight. I think the first 3 months i lost about 40 pounds. I began to notice i had more energy during the day. My clothes began to fit looser and i had to wear a belt. And people, and girls, who would normally ignore me would come up and compliment on how i looked. That was also where i hit my first plateau. So i decided to change how i was eating and join a gym.

Fast forward to now, im back living at home for the moment, and my weight has been fluctuating at or around 300-310 for the past year. So like i did before, i am getting into the gym as much as i can, and am working on a steady diet that fits my schedule.

soo… thats me in a nutshell.
